How I Started Web Development
It all began about 10 years ago. I just bought my first iBook and I?was fascinated with the internet and creating websites. That?Summer during a slow period of gigs (I was a classical musician then), I dove into the W3 Schools online pages of HTML and CSS development. I learned from the source.
Fast forward a little while and, as a budding entrepreneur, I was always in need of a good web developer to help transform my ideas into reality. There was a problem though… Good developers are hard to find and often times, they like to shroud what they do with an air of mystery. It’s as if developing websites were some complicated form of alchemy and magic.
This frustrated me to no end. I knew what I wanted, and knew that it was possible, yet somehow to the developers that I talked with, it seemed so complicated and incredibly expensive. As the frustration mounted, I finally had a “screw this” moment.
Having to deal with developers made me become a developer myself. It sounds a bit strange, but it’s true. There was just so much extra crap surrounding these developers that it became obvious that it would be easier to up my coding game and seriously learn web development than to have to be an “outsider” dealing with developers.
I studied, coded, and continually improved my dev skills and had a strange epiphany.?Developers are really amazing people! This is, they’re amazing people to other developers. They’re very open, sharing a lot and always willing to help. There just seemed this mask to the outside world that anything they want is difficult.
I don’t like having that mask. Sometimes I catch myself falling into the developer trap and need to correct it and remind myself the reason I got into development in the first place: out of a true love of creating code and the frustration of being an outsider having to deal with developers.
